Most In-Demand Neighbourhoods in Ottawa’s Core
Due West
This is going to be a series of articles that take you from Parliament Hill in all directions (well, not north, cause that would take you straight into the Ottawa River).
Let’s start by going west about 7 kilometres and see what we find:
1. West Centretown/Chinatown
Chinatown in Ottawa is an established neighbourhood that is bordered by Little Italy and Lebreton Flats. It is home to independently owned grocery stores, dining options, older homes perfect for fixing up, a large recreation centre with saltwater pools and plenty of other things to do.

2. Mechanicsville/Hintonburg
Mechanicsville is a working-class community in the midst of gentrification. You will find a mix of old and new homes, community housing and fabulous access to downtown, the Ottawa River and Gatineau.
Hintonburg is a vibrant neighbourhood a walk away from more established Wellington West and Westboro and a short jaunt to downtown by bike or public transit. Hipster boutiques and upscale restaurants have taken over this part of town but you’ll still find a mix of homes and even the odd affordable fixer-upper. Living here are singles, dual-income/no kids and young families.

3. Wellington Village/Westboro
Further along Wellington West you will come to Wellington Village with its shops, restaurants and galleries, family homes and lots of high rise condo buildings. Along Island Park Drive, you will find a number of embassies. There, Wellington Street turns into Richmond Road and Westboro Village begins.
This prime beachside location boasts a winning combination of low crime, parks, and lots to do. With condos, townhomes, semi-detached and single-family detached houses for sale, there is an option to suit your lifestyle.

4. Woodroffe/Britannia
North of Carling Avenue all the way to the river is an area known for its main north-south artery, Woodroffe Avenue. Apartments, condos, townhomes, semi-detached houses and detached homes are all available in this area. You will find war-time cottages, 100-year-old brick farm-houses, and new infill throughout. This community has a true multi-generational fabric to it. There is easy access by both car or public transit making it a popular area in which to live.
