NO CLOWNS ALLOWED: A STAGING “DON’T”

This is a video taken at a spacious home in a desirable Ottawa neighbourhood which has been well-maintained by its original owners. It’s been on and off the market for over 9 months. The home is full of personal items including family photos, religious objects and collectibles 🤡 Throughout the showing we are distracted by the sellers’ “story”, their lifestyle, their family. My clients should be focusing on picturing themselves living there but instead are crafting creative narratives about the current owners. And then, 🤡 THE CLOWN.

Client spots the 🤡, says “that’s creepy” and turns on his heels to leave the room as fast as he can. This is an example of why staging and presentation of a home is so critical to getting your home sold quickly and for the most 💵 possible. The personal effects are a huge factor in what slowed down the sale of this home and garnered the sellers a potentially lower sale price.

A NOTE TO BUYERS:

I can’t imagine how many people saw this home and couldn’t see past the decor. Ultimately, my clients purchased the home for under-market value. There are opportunities in homes like these. If you can get past the decor and focus on the things you cannot change like neighbourhood, location, orientation, among other things, you can find tremendous opportunity. Final point – NO CLOWNS 🤡. NO DOLLS. And also no naked troll dolls. I didn’t show that in the video but it also got a lot of attention.
