I visited a home for sale with a buyer client. We opened the pantry and a box fell forward. We turned and looked into the living room where the fire was roaring and a blanket was lovingly thrown just so over the sofa arm.
Upstairs it was more of the same. We opened the primary bedroom closet and couldn’t shut the door again because it was stuffed so full of clothing in dry-cleaner plastic. On the bed, a tray was laid out with wine, wine glasses, and a great novel. In the front hall, a large shiny vase contained tall grasses while the closet was packed with clothing and shoes.
All the buyer could see was a lack of storage. All I could see was wasted time and money spent on silly accessories. Staging is not adding accessories for pretend living. Staging is clearing space so a potential buyer can imagine themselves living in the home.
